Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who has achieved great popularity with her stories she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift developed an interest for music as a child and swiftly progressed from participating in shows for children to making her debut in the front of a crowd. Swift was eleven years old when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. Following that, she began writing songs, and also picked up the guitar. Swift, who took her inspirations from Shania Twain's music and The Dixie Chicks now known as The Chicks in the world in country music composed her original songs to reflect her feelings of alienation. At the age of 13, Swift's parents decided to sell their farm in Pennsylvania to move into Hendersonville Tennessee so she could dedicate more time in courting the country music labels within the vicinity of Nashville.
